The Annual Ukulele Festival is the largest of its kind in the world that showcases the finest ukulele tunes and players, along with national celebrities. This prestigious Hawaiian Instrumental Festival is a highly regarded annual cultural celebration that is back with its fourth anniversary. The Ukulele Festival doors will be open on Sunday 17th October, 2010 from 1:00 pm onwards at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, Maui Island Hawaii.

The 4th Annual Maui Ukulele Festival is a FREE two hour concert which will provide you the opportunity to witness Hawaii’s top entertainers and a ukulele orchestra of more than 800 students that will certainly thrill your ears and warm your heart.

Ukulele is a world-renowned portable, stringed instrument which possesses a lasting, rich tone that cannot be duplicated. The islanders truly enjoy its tunes and religiously play this instrument. It is said that the ukulele arrived on the islands in 1879 and soon became the instrument of choice for the residents of this island.

In 1971, Roy Sakuma organized the 1st Annual Ukulele Festival. He wanted the Islanders to be aware of the fact that Ukulele is a solo instrument and not just a rhythm instrument for background music. He believes and has proved that Ukulele can be played with sophistication and skill. The Ukulele Festival also inspires the county to declare in advance the beginning of ‘Ukulele Week in Maui.
